If the Greens are at %20 in BC and the Libs are at 19% according to Angus Reid, does that mean we are going to see a huge shift in seats?
We're down 4.3% in BC, and the NDP are down 3.6%. However, the Libs are down a whopping 8.6%.
According to electionprediction.org there are 14 races in BC currently too close to call.
Here's what i think of these races based on polling numbers (and commentary):
Vancouver Kingsway: Emerson won because he was going to be Harper's worst nightmare. Without Emerson, and with the liberal vote tanking I see an NDP, with a CPC 2nd or 3rd depending on whether Emerson runs in this riding or not.
North Vancouver: Conservative pickup with Libs in a close second and Greens in third.
West Vancouver- Sunshine Coast- Sea to Sky Country: Too close to call. If Emerson runs here then CPC, if not I think Blair has a solid chance of taking it. Call it Green for now.
New Westminster-Coquitlam: NDP hold.
Richmond: Cautiously CPC
Fleetwood- Port Kells: CPC holds, barely, against NDP.
Newton- North Delta: NDP pick up from libs, conservatives duke it out for second (maybe)
Surrey North: Anything could happen, but for now Conservative.
Pitt Meadows- Maple Ridge- Mission: CPC hold
Kamloops-Thompson-Caribou: CPC hold
Nanaimo-Alberni: CPC hold
Nanaimo-Cowichan: NDP hold
Saanich-Gulf Islands: Fight between CPC and Greens. Right now i'd go for CPC.
Vancouver Island North: NDP hold.
So thems be the ways I sees it.
Ps. Thanks to NB Tory Lady for the Angus Reid Data.

Right As Rain: Condemn what is happening in Guelph!
Right As Rain: Condemn what is happening in Guelph!
I, a Conservative Party of Canada Supporter, condemn the violent actions of those who have been engaging in a campaign of violence and vandalism against supporters of all four main parties in the riding of Guelph. I especially condemn the recent cutting of brake lines in the cars of Liberal Party of Canada supporters, and thank God that this did not lead to Death or serious injury to any of the supporters.
To whoever is responsible: Whether you are members of a party, or of a group such as Ontario Coalition Against Poverty, Guelph Union of Tennants and Supporters and the like, I beseech you to come clean or at the very least to stop your campaign of terror.
To anyone who reads this post: Spread the word far and wide, blog and talk, and seek to establish a Canada where intimidation plays no role in politics.

Is Blair Wilson For Real?
So Blair Wilson is Joining the Green Party?
I used to think the Green Party had potential until they started pulling stunts like this. Jim Harris was a lot better than Betty May. Jim Harris had strong convictions, and sensible policies. May on the other hand has become a symbol of what many idiots accused the green party of being: A bunch of granola munching hippy crypto-socialists who will do anything to advance their agenda.
That said Blair Wilson had a strong campaign team that to a certain extent appears to belong to him and not the Liberal Party (why else would he win were the liberals had lost before when they were going down?). That plus the incumbency and the WOW FIRST GREEN factor should help him. I don't think he'll get reelected but I imagine a strong second behind the conservative candidate. On that note I am hoping the Conservative Candidate in this riding is David Emerson. We need him in cabinet and this riding looks like the best shot.
The big question is how will he fit into the post 2008 Green Party. If Elizabeth May fails to win her seat will she be deposed. Will Wilson Run to Succeed her? Anyways that's my take on it.
David Emerson, Blair Wilson, David Emerson, Green Party, Elizabeth May

Unambiguously Ambidextrous: A Chance To Cut Taxes And Spending
Unambiguously Ambidextrous: A Chance To Cut Taxes And Spending
Yeah I know i've been linking to other blogs a lot lately but everyone else seems to beat me to the topics I want to talk about.
Anyways the diesel tax cut. Brilliant. Friggin. Idea. Full Stop.
First from an economic perspective.
Tax Cut= Good. Tax Cut to something used directly or indirectly by every business= UberGood
Second from a fairness perspective.
This helps everyone. By lowering the cost of everything (including food) everyone is helped even those who don't pay income tax and buy little outside of GST exempt items. As well it saves a lot of money for Cities and everyone pays property tax either directly or through rent.
Third from a political perspective.
If this goes through MPs should be in every city selling the massive savings for that city this cut offers. Bill it as "assistance for transit and infrastructure construction (i'm assumed all that heavy gear runs on diesel?)"
Also this offers a GREAT wedge issue to use against Dion. "Dion will raise taxes on diesel to raise several billion dollars for wacky programs and income tax cuts for big earners on the back of cities and the average canadian".
diesel, transport, taxes, carbon

Clear Conservative Thought: More help for Students!?
Clear Conservative Thought: More help for Students!?
I honestly have to disagree with the prevailing mood among Conservative Bloggers about the government announcement regarding funding for postsecondary education.
As I pointed out on Clear Conservative Thought, a med degree (including the prerequisite undergrad degree) costs you over $100,000 in tuition alone. That's pre: books, living expenses, student union fees (what a big crock), and taxes on whatever you earn. Over the 8 years to become a Doctor a $250 a month payment for the academic year will pay out $18,000 or about 20% of the costs. While this isn't my first preference for distribution of funds to support postsecondary education, it certainly helps, as even coming from a middle income family affording med school will be difficult for me. (Even with only a $100 a month subsidy).
If I had to choose a REAL plan though for funding postsecondary education however I'd float tuition at cost and provide the money to the students rather than the universities. Why? Because then the money could be distributed based on marks (about %50 of the cost), need for the degree (%25 of the cost) and income (%25 of the cost).
I highly doubt this will happen, however, so until then this step is a decent choice and certainly better than pissing away the money on foreign junkets for leftwing journalists.

Unambiguously Ambidextrous: That "Big Tent" Discussion Again
Unambiguously Ambidextrous: That "Big Tent" Discussion Again
I can honestly not understand the amount of crap that has flown over Raphael's criticism of certain members of the Conservative community that he feels doesn't represent his values.
And you know what? They don't represent mine either.
Oh well for them.
My point is, however, is that Raphael has every right to call them out and it doesn't make him a Liberal.
On the other hand Raphael has revealed a slight bit of hypocritical behaviour on his part. He wants both the CPC and Blogging Tories to be big tents but yet he treads dangerously close to saying that he can't fit in the same tent as certain others.
The fact is you can't have it both ways. If you want to stay in, then stay in a criticize but don't expect people to quit because of you.
big+tent, Raphael+Alexander

Hello Again
Yeah I know, all two of my readers are overjoyed blah blah blah, but i'm back mainly because the people in my life can't stand my bitching.
So first topic.
Bottled Water Ban.
What in God's name is up with people wanting a ban on bottled water. Yeah its unhealthy, Yeah its environmentally wasteful but it has legitimate uses. Like you know Camping, Road Trips, During Emergencies etc.
I have no problems with cities (like is proposed now in Hamilton) saying "We won't sell this on city property because there are other options" but banning them completely is complete bull.
Get it?
Good. Now go to hallmarks.thespec.com and educate Hamiltonians.
PS. If you drink bottled water because it's "better" for you stop fooling yourself. Of course I (or the government) have no right to dictate sense so that's just my advice.
